How to get EVERYONE dancing at your wedding!
Have a Céilí!!
Yep, there you have it, I have just given you THE best kept secret of the century!
Céilís are just fab, not only because they are heaps of fun but they enable everyone to get involved, from 6 year olds to 100 + year olds, and this means that you don’t have to spend time stressing about your shy-natured friends feeling self-consious during your big day!
What is a Céilí?
Céilí is an Irish term and Ceilidh is a Scottish term but they both refer to the same thing: a Gaelic social gathering which involves traditional music and dancing. The latter term is also commonly used in reference to English dances nowadays too in place of the term, Barn dance. They’re an age-old way of getting people together to have fun and at one time were used as a place for courting. So, if you’re trying to fix your Chief Bridesmaid up with the Best Man, here’s your chance!!
On a serious note, we’ve all been to parties where a few of the confident souls amongst us strut their stuff on the dance floor without a care in the world, whilst the rest of us cower in corners behind our drinks, too shy and self aware to get up there and join them, in case our skills don’t quite cut it. We’ve also been to parties where we don’t really know many of the other guests and so the whole night becomes a battle with our feelings of self-awareness and awkwardness!
Céilís combat all of these issues because, for starters, everyone is in the same boat in the sense that most people don’t know the dance steps, so the majority will rely on instruction from the dance caller. Secondly, it provides your guests of all ages with a chance to mingle in a relaxed, fun way, whether they know each other or not. As a result the self-awareness and awkwardness becomes heavily reduced and the ice is broken!
The céilí musicians and callers that we provide at Night And Day Music Agency are amongst the best in the country, but don’t just take my word for it, read about them for yourself by clicking here. If you would like a quote, please don’t hesitate to get in touch through our contact page.
If you’ve had any céilí experiences, we would love to hear about them in the comments section below.
